God said Abram was righteous because of his faith. He trusted and followed God, so God blessed Abram abundantly. This is the entire foundation of true Christian religion; your righteousness is a gift obtained through your faith. The purpose of Abrams descendants was the same as todays church: to proclaim the truth of the God who saves you by faith.
