Cook-in at the Church

While most people can’t wait for “cook-out” season, there are some in our community who long for a simple “cook-in.”

Our church continues to host a Wednesday evening “Cook-In” for some of those in our neighborhood who do not yet have a place to call home. Some are living in formal community shelters, some in garages or campgrounds, others in small spaces carved out here and there. Having a kitchen where they can prepare a hot home-made meal to be shared at a table with family and friends seems like an improbable dream.

Last Wednesday evening, we hosted another extended family of cousins at our church kitchen and dining room.

They couldn’t begin cooking until about 7 pm, as each of them was at a different place of work and had to get picked up, buy groceries, and then travel to our church. They made a chicken and spaghetti dinner and relished every delicious bite while surrounded by loved ones in a quiet and warm dining room. Both body and soul were fed.
